History of Danville, CA- Danville is a 130 year old town with a lot of history and character. This town's history has seen a lot of change and growth . Danville is often referred to "The heart of the San Ramon Valley" and was first populated by the Indians who inhabited the vicinity of the creeks and camped on Mt. Diablo in the summer months.
Some interesting trivia about this historic town:
Danville is home to the only mountain in the world with a more extensive view from the top than Mount Diablo is Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
The The Danville Oak Tree has become a symbol of the community and, also a central point of meeting and communication in the Town. Each year in November, the Town gathers on Diablo Road at the base of the tree to celebrate the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Oak Tree, estimated to be 350 years old, remains the most notable landmark in town and is the symbol for the Town of Danville.
The Danville Grange building constructed in 1874 is today the second story of the Village Theatre. A lot of young locally based musicians play here on the weekends.
Initially a farming town and continued to be so till the late 1940's, the construction of I 680 in the mid 1960's altered the lanscape for Danville permanently.
But in 1982, Danville citizens voted to incorporate their community, allowing themselves to shape future changes more directly.
After 130 years, the small settlement on the banks of the Creek has grown from a blacksmith shop to a thriving community - still changing, still beautiful and still special.
Downtown Danville is a beautiful historic street lined with upscale restaurants, bistros and smal businesses. All year round , the businesses see local patrons eating out and shopping at this quaint looking downtown shopping district.
